As one of Germany’s leading developers of accounting software, we find ourselves asking: where do we stand in society – on the fringes or right at its heart? We see ourselves as part of a social construct, an interdependent community. Only in a healthy society can a company thrive and be successful.
That is why we take our social responsibility very seriously. It is not a PR stunt, but a fundamental part of our day-to-day work. We view every single customer relationship as a partnership. We don’t simply sell a software licence; instead, we engage in dialogue and share our expertise and industry insights. This goes so far as to mean that we do not exclude our competitors from our webinars and live streams. After all, only healthy, fair competition drives society forward.
Looking to the future with conviction
We put our beliefs into practice internally too. In our recruitment policy, background, sexual orientation, gender identity or faith play no part. For us, only character and skills count.
At our headquarters in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld, colleagues from three continents work together to develop new and better ideas. We continuously support the professional development of our workforce through both internal and external initiatives. Furthermore, we are, of course, an apprenticeship-providing organisation. Alongside our specialist knowledge, we pass on important values and principles to young people.
Together, we can achieve more
We are particularly proud of our collaboration with the Network of Integration Initiatives in German Business. As part of the „Wir zusammen“ initiative (URL: https://www.wir-zusammen.de/) we enable refugees to make a fresh start in their careers. Both sides benefit from this initiative. People who have been through unimaginable experiences learn about respect, solidarity and – perhaps most importantly – a sense of normality. At the same time, we broaden our own horizons and gain new perspectives and insights.
Since 1 November 2016, we have been offering IT work placements for refugees in partnership with the ‘www.wir-zusammen.de’ initiative. During these placements, young people gain valuable insights into how a software company operates, such as the development and marketing of software products. We are also promoting the exchange of information through our staff, who come from six different countries.
In line with the core principle of „Wir zusammen“, our support measures have been clearly defined and have already been launched. They not only promote the integration of refugees into our society and the labour market, but are also designed to have a lasting impact. Through our support programme for refugees, we aim to demonstrate that Germany is a tolerant and open country, whilst at the same time sending a united and inspiring message of integration and compassion.
We take our social responsibility seriously and offer our employees from migrant backgrounds a range of opportunities to join us in various roles. From work placements to apprenticeships or full-time roles as IT developers, we employ people from more than six different countries.
In this interview, you’ll get to know Khaled, who fled Syria and is now training with us to become an IT specialist. In conversation with our Art Director, Matin Mehrabi, Khaled talks about his personal experiences and the reasons that led him to leave his homeland.
