A few weeks ago, I was travelling by car. In the heart of Europe, on my way back to Hamburg. And I found myself wondering why I don’t actually travel by train. Of course, I drive – because I can afford to. And that’s exactly when the thought occurred to me that now appears as the headline above this text.
I could cut a long story short here and simply confirm what we all already know: it’s all down to mindset. It starts with doing without packaging. If it matters to me, I pay attention to how my food is packaged. If I don’t care, then I don’t care about the overflowing recycling bin either.
Let’s get to the heart of the matter: it’s about sacrifice – there’s the magic word. Am I prepared to give something up for the sake of the environment? At first glance, in this specific case, I wouldn’t have had to give up all that much. But that’s only at first glance. On closer inspection, I would certainly have had to put up with quite a lot if I’d taken the train instead of getting behind the wheel.
