Meet our lecturer, Sebastian Mertens. Sebastian leads the course on Process Automation in the hsp Academy.

Hello! My name is Sebastian Mertens and, together, you’ll learn a lot about automation using tools (low-code and no-code tools) on our course.

A bit about me by way of background: I am the founder of wemakefuture GmbH. We have set ourselves the goal of becoming the market leader in Germany in the field of cloud process automation – that is, anything involving tools that have an API – and, by extension, in Europe as well, with a wide range of solutions.

What is your professional background?

I actually come from a very traditional sector, namely banking and consultancy. I realised that there were already quite a few initiatives in this area in America, so I decided to adopt an ‘all-out’ strategy right from the start and launched the business in Germany in 2019. We’re now moving into the small and medium-sized enterprise sector and plan to focus increasingly on international expansion over the coming months. Personally, I absolutely love cooking. That actually ties in well with processes, because with processes you also have to ‘cook’ them up, put them together and be creative – but they mustn’t taste bad, otherwise they’re simply pointless. I enjoy doing lots of sport and spending plenty of time outdoors. I’m from near Frankfurt. What made you want to get involved as a lecturer on this course?

For me, it’s simply always a pleasure to take other people on a journey, to tell them, „This is good and that’s not so good; from a technological point of view, this direction makes sense“, and to point out solutions, to guide others by the hand and simply enjoy having a bit of a chat. Anyone who knows me knows that I enjoy talking and explaining things, without trying to act as if I know better. When Paul asked me if I wanted to be part of this, I thought quite simply: „Yes, definitely.“ And I also believe that I can offer you consistent added value and provide consistent input. And I’m delighted whenever there are opportunities for new approaches and collaborations.

What can participants expect from your course? What makes it stand out?

You can expect to start by getting a grasp of what’s actually possible. We’ll take a very broad, bird’s-eye view to start by identifying the various approaches to automation. You’ll be given lots of examples relating to the topic, which may well be relevant to your day-to-day work or that of your clients. That’s what sets this course apart. You don’t need to learn how to code. You’ll get to know a few tools. You’ll also see that it’s actually quite simple, and in doing so you’ll understand the possibilities, but you don’t need to programme. And what really sets this apart in the end? You’ll know what’s possible without having to do anything specific. And I hope you enjoy it!
