hsp offers IT training courses for refugees and immigrants. At hsp, social and professional engagement without cultural boundaries is put into practice.

Refugees in vocational training – an asset to us

As a medium-sized company with a global outlook, we offer vocational training to refugees and immigrants whose first language is not German. A recent example is our colleague Khaled. He was unfamiliar with the concept of vocational training from his home country of Syria. There, he had studied electrical engineering in Aleppo for three years before coming to Germany in early 2015. The speed with which he has learnt the complex German language is remarkable and inspiring. It was this energy that also convinced those in charge at hsp during the application process. He is now completing his apprenticeship as an IT specialist in application development at the Hamburg site, which will run until summer 2019.

For Khaled, the vocational training programme at this owner-managed company offers many advantages: „Training in Germany is very valuable, as it allows me to prove that I am well qualified and thus build a career for myself. Here, I have a steady income and receive support from my trainers. I also really enjoy working with my colleagues.“

The trainer also really enjoys working with Khaled. He has noticed the positive progress he has made:

Khaled’s German is improving day by day and he is becoming more and more confident in his demeanour. He has also fully integrated into working life.

Partnership with wir-zusammen.de

The owner of hsp, Paul Liese, is doing everything he can to support Khaled and, at present, three other apprentices with similar backgrounds within the company during their introductory training and apprenticeship. In addition to offering apprenticeships, hsp has also established a special partnership with the organisation wir-zusammen.de organised. The initiative supports refugees in continuing their careers in Germany or successfully making a fresh start. This is because foreign qualifications continue to face purely political discrimination, with the result that even highly qualified professionals are sometimes treated here as if they were school leavers.

The idea for „Wir zusammen“ emerged in 2015 from discussions between leading representatives of the German business community. The network was founded in February 2016 by 36 initiators, all of whom were already actively involved in projects for refugees at that time. The member companies bring their commitment together under the network’s umbrella. This includes hsp. The „www.wir-zusammen.de“ platform offers not only transparency and guidance but also examples of projects that have already been successfully established. It aims to inspire other companies to work together with their staff to support the integration of people who have had to leave their entire lives behind – and in most cases even family members and friends. .
